The World Without Us

By Alan Weisman, 2007.

Interesting book, although it got a little repetitive towards the end. I disliked how the author tended to anthropomorphize the planet rather than state what processes take place in a more straightforward manner. Also I thought it was a little puzzling that at one moment he's talking about the incredible age of the earth, and the next talking about the terrifically long time some plastics will stick around. Ok, 8000 years is a long time, but it's a blink of the eye as far as the planet is concerned. If we were to disappear today, then 8000 years to resolve those sorts of waste is almost inconsequential.

As a side note, I did find the notes on how to communicate - ie, leave warning signs - for people thousands of year in the future to be very interesting.
